KCB fry Menengai Oilers to be crowned Christie Sevens

KCB Rugby are the new Christie Sevens champions after a commanding 17-5 win over Menengai Oilers in the final played at RFUEA Grounds on Sunday.

The victory gave the Bankers their eighth Christie Sevens crown and their second trophy of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit season.

It was a dominant run to the title for KCB, who showed consistency from the quarterfinals all the way to the last whistle.

In the final, the Bankers wasted no time stamping their authority. Speedster Floyd Wabwire sliced through the Oilers defence to score the opener before Festus Shiasi pounced from a ruck to double the lead. By half-time, KCB were comfortably ahead 12-0.

After the break, Wabwire added his second of the game with a clever kick-and-chase, extending the lead to 17-0. The Oilers managed a consolation through Samuel Ovwamu, but it came too late as KCB secured a deserved win.

The path to the final had been equally impressive. In the quarterfinals, the Bankers brushed aside Daystar 27-0 in a one-sided clash, with their defence holding firm while their attack proved ruthless.

They then faced a stern test in the semifinals against Kenya Harlequin. Quins had eliminated rivals Impala in the quarters, but KCB’s composure under pressure earned them a narrow 21-19 victory to book their third consecutive final.

On the other side of the draw, Menengai Oilers defeated Nondies 26-10 in the quarters before battling past Strathmore Leos 24-19 in a thrilling semifinal.

The win set up their fourth final appearance of the season, but once again, the Nakuru-based side fell short against their nemesis KCB, who have now beaten them three times this campaign.

Elsewhere, the 3rd place playoff saw Kenya Harlequin edge Strathmore Leos 24-19, while Impala RFC clinched 5th place with a 31-12 win over Nondies. Kabras Sugar RFC lifted the Challenge Trophy after edging Mwamba 12-7, and Zetech University took 13th place with a 32-7 win over Blad.
