South Coast Pirates unveil new coach ahead of KRU Championship season
Former KCB and Impala star Tony “Lujesi” Khadambi has been unveiled as the new head coach of South Coast Pirates RFC ahead of the 2025/26 Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship season.
Khadambi enjoyed a decorated playing career, turning out for Impala, KCB, Homeboyz, and the Kenya U20 (Chipu) 7s side, where he also captained the team.
Off the pitch, he has developed a strong coaching reputation, guiding Moi University Arsonists to consistent success, working with Uganda’s Tororo Crest and Jinja Hippos, and giving his time to grassroots rugby development.
At Pirates, Khadambi will be expected to build a stronger, more competitive squad in the Championship while also developing young talent from the Coast region.
The club says his approach matches their values of ambition, resilience, and community.
“We are delighted to welcome Coach Khadambi on board,” said the club’s management. “His passion for the game, deep understanding of player development, and commitment to community rugby make him the right fit as we chart the next chapter of our journey.”
Speaking after his appointment, Khadambi admitted he was surprised to land the role but is eager to get started.
“Honestly, I was both surprised and humbled to be selected among many strong candidates for this role,” he said. “Having previously spent two weeks with the Pirates earlier in the year, I saw first-hand the hunger and potential in the squad.”
He added that the experience convinced him that Pirates was the right team for him.
“That experience planted a seed and I felt this was a team I could contribute to in a meaningful way. Now that I have been given the trust, my focus is to give my all and serve the club with the dedication it deserves.”
