FKF signs Ksh 1.12 Billion Sponsorship Deal with SportPesa for Kenyan Premier League

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has sealed a major sponsorship deal with betting firm SportPesa worth Ksh 1.12 billion to support the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) for the next ten years.

The landmark agreement was announced yesterday and will see SportPesa become the official title sponsor of the top-flight league. The deal begins with the upcoming season, where Ksh 85 million has already been set aside to kickstart the partnership.

Under the arrangement, the Ksh 1.12 billion will be spread across ten years, averaging Ksh 112 million annually. FKF confirmed that for the first season, 40 percent of the funds will go towards administrative costs, while 60 percent will be shared among the 18 Premier League clubs.

This means that each club will receive about Ksh 2.8 million to help with their preparations and participation in the league.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed said the sponsorship will ease financial struggles that clubs have been facing and help improve the quality of the competition.

“This deal comes at the right time for Kenyan football. Our clubs have faced many financial challenges, but with this support, they can focus on playing and improving the game,” Mohammed said during the unveiling.

SportPesa officials expressed confidence that the partnership will revive the excitement of the Kenyan Premier League and attract more fans. The betting firm had previously sponsored local football before withdrawing due to regulatory challenges but has now made a strong return.

Clubs and players have welcomed the news, saying the funds will help in paying allowances, signing new players, and improving training facilities.

The new season of the Kenyan Premier League is set to kick off soon, with teams expected to benefit immediately from the sponsorship package.
