CHAN 2024: Hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda set for bruisng quarters

Uganda delighted their home fans after sealing a place in the quarter-finals of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024, joining fellow hosts Kenya and Tanzania in the last eight.

The Cranes topped Group C with confidence, finishing ahead of Algeria, who also advanced after a hard-fought campaign. Their progress means all three host nations of the tournament are still in contention as the battle now moves to the knockout phase.

Kenya, who have been one of the surprise stories of the championship, emerged winners of Group A after a determined run that included victories over Morocco and DR Congo.

They will now take on Madagascar at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani on Friday evening in Nairobi. Morocco, who finished second in Group A, travel to Dar es Salaam where they will meet Tanzania in another highly anticipated East African clash.

Tanzania impressed in Group B, finishing top after strong performances, while Madagascar’s resilience ensured they grabbed the second qualifying spot. In Group D, Sudan showed their strength to claim first place, while Senegal did enough to book their place as runners-up.

The quarter-final action kicks off on Friday, August 22, with Kenya facing Madagascar at 5:00pm, followed by Tanzania’s clash with Morocco at 8:00pm.

On Saturday, August 23, Sudan will meet Algeria in Zanzibar before Uganda round off the fixtures against Senegal at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

Winners from the four ties will move into the semi-finals set for August 26 and 27, before the grand final scheduled for Saturday, August 30. With three host nations in the mix, East Africa is assured of strong representation deep into the tournament, raising hopes of a historic showdown.
