Junior Starlets Ready for Cameroon Rematch in World Cup Bid

Kenya’s Under-17 women’s football team left for Cameroon ahead of the crucial second leg of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2025 Qualifiers.

After a narrow 1-0 defeat at home, the Junior Starlets are determined to bounce back and secure their spot in the World Cup.

The first leg at Nyayo Stadium saw Kenya concede an early goal but dominate much of the game without converting chances. Coach Charles Omondi praised the team’s fighting spirit and emphasized the need to start strong in the return match. “We must play aggressively and score early to put pressure on Cameroon,” he said.

Captain Halima Imbachi apologized to fans for the home loss but promised the team’s full commitment. “We have corrected our mistakes and will give everything in Cameroon,” she said.

Kenya’s top sports officials also reaffirmed their support, with Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi pledging rewards if the team qualifies. Cameroon coach Joseph Ndoko expects a tough match, recognizing Kenya’s resilience.

The winner of this tie will join the Morocco World Cup, where Kenya seeks its second straight appearance after debuting last year.
