Dolphina Odhiambo Eyes Gor Mahia Chairmanship, Calls for Fresh Leadership
With Gor Mahia’s upcoming elections now confirmed, treasurer Dolphina Odhiambo has reiterated her call for fairness and transparency in the process, stressing the need for fresh leadership at the club.
Odhiambo, who has declared her candidacy for the chairmanship, has also challenged the eligibility of current chairman Ambrose Rachier to seek re-election.
Speaking on the matter, Odhiambo accused the current leadership of deliberately delaying the elections, which were supposed to have been held in August 2024.
“For 16 years, Gor Mahia has been stuck in the same cycle. The entire Gor Mahia fraternity is expectant that the club will finally hold proper elections,” she stated.
She insisted that the election must adhere to both the club’s constitution and the Sports Act, 2013, given that the club is in a rebuilding phase.
“I expect the chairman to ensure that the elections are fair. The Secretary-General should immediately call for a PG (Plenary General) meeting, and within the next seven days, clear election guidelines must be issued,” she demanded.
Odhiambo also called on the Ministry of Sports and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to oversee the process and ensure Gor Mahia follows the Sports Disputes Tribunal’s ruling.
“The Ministry and FKF must ensure that Gor Mahia fully adheres to the tribunal’s decision. It is time for fresh leadership at this club,” she said.
As part of her campaign message, Odhiambo urged Rachier to step aside, arguing that his tenure has run its course.
“He has done enough. It is time for Gor Mahia to look for new leadership. The club has suffered reputational damage, especially due to the way player transfers have been handled,” she noted.
She further criticized what she termed a “botched” transfer saga, claiming that funds involved in a player transfer did not go through the club’s official accounts, despite her position as treasurer.
“Gor has been cast in bad light due to the transfer of players. The wired money did not go through the club’s account, and as the treasurer, I was not even aware of it,” she revealed.
Looking ahead, Odhiambo urged fans to actively participate in the election, expressing confidence that new leadership will help restore Gor Mahia’s image globally.
“I am officially running for the chairmanship, and I welcome all those who wish to vie,” she affirmed.
The elections, set to take place within the next 90 days, are expected to shape the future of the club both on and off the pitch.
